Whoa. Not so fast!

This type of movement is a little more complex. There is more going on here than just seasonal movement. More often than not, this type of damage is caused by roof framing or structural defects other than settling of the foundation. This requires a little bit of detective work. Sometimes a weak or poorly constructed hip roof will cause the corner of the building to spread or move laterally (horizontally). Often you can find the source of weakness in the attic. Too many times movement in a structure is blamed on the foundation and other causes are overlooked.
