Another one that is common in North Texas
The amount of forgiveness we have depends upon the age of a house. For instance, if this house is 2 years old,
this cannot be ignored. If it however is 35 years old, most of us would forgive this amount of structural damage
and move on. Again, as before, patching mortar is not always a good idea. If you are a brick mason who is good at matching colors and textures,
you have my blessing. If you are not, call one who is. You won't regret it. Making this kind of repair yourself is like
cutting your own hair.
Incidentally, you may have noticed the wider mortar joints in the break are consistently wide top and bottom.
This indicates repetitive, seasonal movement. The movement is not in the same direction each time it occurs. This foundation is
moving up one time and down the next time.
